Benross Innovator X driver |
Watch any of the game's coaches and gurus on the television, read their thoughts in books and magazines or even read their blogs on various websites and they'll all tell you that if you want to be serious about golf, the chipping and putting green is the place to be. Hours spent there will shave off those all-important shots which can turn a good round into a great one.
But hang on a minute, we don't all want - nor have the ability, time or inclination - to put in the hours of practice required to become a Category 1 or even a single figure player. Nor can we afford to spend a fortune on clubs. Many of us just want to get out there with a big, shiny driver and feel the pure pleasure of giving that little white ball a bloody good hiding and watching it sail off into the distance.
And that's where today's budget buy big boys come in - and they don't come a lot bigger than the Benross Innovator X driver, which features an innovative stretch bullet-shaped body design.
At address, it's difficult to believe you can avoid making great solid contact as the large, deep face sits behind your teed-up ball.
In an effort to make things even easier for us handicap golfers, Benross engineers have put the maximum body weight low and deep and as far from the clubface as possible at the pointed end of the bullet.
This makes the Benross Innovator X a very stable driver with a high degree of resistance to twisting, which helps it be even more forgiving of any slight miss-hits
Interchangeable weights (3g and 9g) provided with the driver, allow golfers to customise their ball flight to suit their game and/or course or weather conditions. Benross says that swapping between weights can increase or decrease a golfer's driver launch angle by up to three degrees, so hopefully your last words to your golf ball as you strike it off the tee won't be 'when will I see you again?'

Innovator X Fairbrid, it has helped avoid the confusion modern golfers are faced with when deciding whether to add a fairway metal, a hybrid or both to their set - especially if, like most, they're wary of using long irons.
The Innovator X Fairbrid is available in four loft options, with three degrees between each - from 15 to 24 degrees - all right hand only.
As well as the distinctive stretched bullet-shape head of its big brother - the new Benross Innovator X driver - it has a low and deep centre of gravity and radius sole to help get the ball airborne from various lies and Aldila DVS shaft and Tour velvet grip all as standard.

Identify Your Needs
Preparing to replace your old golf clubs with new ones? Here are a few things to keep in mind
Considering new equipment ?...... The most important thing when replacing old with new is to be honest about the state of your game, and your dedication to the game. How much money and what level of equipment do you feel is justified by your game and your dedication to it ?
Consider Changes in Your Game
Ask yourself this question: Do I need a different type club because of changes in my game? For example, if your handicap index has shot up because you don't play as frequently, you might want to replace those muscleback blades with easy hit cavitybacks or perhaps there is a club/s in your bag you've lost confidence with. Conversely, if you've shown great improvement, perhaps you're willing to consider moving up in class to clubs geared for better players. Realistically matching your level of expertise and dedication with the playability of new clubs can only help.
Should You Change Shafts?
The older we get, the more likely it is we need a softer flex on our golf shafts. Most teaching pros will tell you that most men are playing shafts too stiff for their games to begin with. Be honest about your swing. Should you be playing a softer flex? Likewise, players with slower or weaker swings generally benefit from graphite shafts. If you're playing steel but your swing has slowed, give graphite some consideration.
Once you've identified the current state of your game and your future goals, it's time to consider how much you're willing to spend. Some golfers have unlimited budgets, and there's nothing wrong with overspending if you're in that category. But most golfers have at least some budget constraints. The good news is that at golfcustom.com "value" or "budget" category of golf equipment continues to offer more and better choices every year. Decide how much you're willing to spend to improve your game, and stick to it.

Benross VX50 forged iron |
Buoyed by its success in 2006, we aim to break new ground with three new models of Benross iron, including the VX50 Forged - its first foray into the 'clubs for better players' market.
The advanced, cavity-back design of the VX50 Forged features different combinations of steel in the heads of the 3- to 6-iron, compared to the 7-iron to pitching wedge, in an effort to bring a softer feel to the scoring clubs.
With True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips, you'll pay £349 for eight irons (3- PW) with options of S300 or r300 shaft flexes.
The new VX5 irons incorporate the TriMass weight-positioning system and a deep centre of gravity to make long and mid irons easier to hit. The clubs are available in True Temper Dynamic Lite steel or Aldila TM70 graphite shaft options (4-SW). Recommended price is £249 (steel) or £299 (graphite). |

Benross VX Combo OS iron | Benross claims the updated VX OverSize (OS) Combo irons used in conjunction with new V5 Escape hybrid utility clubs take combination sets to a new level in launch angle and forgiveness.
A standard 3-SW set will cost £299, while a 5-SW set, including the introduction 3- and 4- V5 Escape hybrids, are priced the same. Other recommended combinations are 3-SW graphite (£329), 4-SW graphite (£229), 5-SW steel 9£199) and 5-SW graphite (£249).
Benross putters have proved very popular in the last 12 months and 2007 will see the introduction of the Ripple VMC SV2 with four adjustable weights either centre or heel shafted (£69.99) and the SRII with dual fixed tungsten weight ports and an oval milled aluminium face insert (£49.99). |

Benross Ripple SR VMC SV2 putter | Two wedges complete the 2007 Benross hardwear - the VX Forged series and the Sweet Feel (SF) 20 series. The VX forged (£49.99) has lofts of 52,56 and 60 degrees (right hand only), while the Sweet Feel features a classic teardrop head shape black nickel finish (£39.99) in five lofts from 48 to 60 degrees.
Benross completes its range with three new bags in a choice of 12 colours including orange, green, blue and pink. Models are Z7 cart bag (£79.99), M7 Lite stand bag (£59.99) and B7 Lite stand bag (£39.99). |
